TRIBUNNEWS.COM – Siswa SMA/MA Kelas 12 kini memasuki Unit 1 dalam buku pelajaran Bahasa Inggris Life Today Kurikulum Merdeka, berjudul “Narrative Text: The Story of a Friendly Future”, yang disusun oleh Susanti Retno Hardini, dkk dan diterbitkan oleh Kemdikbudristek pada tahun 2022.

Unit ini dirancang untuk mengembangkan pemahaman siswa secara menyeluruh terhadap teks naratif.

Materi mencakup pengenalan struktur dan tujuan komunikatif teks naratif, serta ciri-ciri kebahasaan seperti penggunaan past tense dan action verbs.

Siswa juga diarahkan untuk mengidentifikasi informasi eksplisit dan implisit, menguraikan ide pokok, hingga menulis dan menceritakan ulang teks naratif secara runtut dan sesuai kaidah bahasa.

Pada halaman 7, 8, 9, dan 10, siswa dihadapkan pada sejumlah soal berbasis keterampilan Speaking, yang terbagi ke dalam Activity 1, Activity 2, dan Activity 3.

Dalam aktivitas tersebut, siswa diminta menjawab beberapa pertanyaan berdasarkan petunjuk dalam buku.

Penting untuk diketahui, sebelum melihat kunci jawaban, siswa diharapkan terlebih dahulu mengerjakan soal secara mandiri.

Adapun kunci jawaban disediakan untuk membantu orang tua membandingkan dan memeriksa hasil pekerjaan anak secara objektif.

Activity 1

You are going to read a comic strip. Before that, try to understand the meanings of some phrases in the comic stript by matching the words in column A. with their meanings in column B. Work individually.

Activity 2

Read the comic strip and answer the questions

1. What is the boy doing?
Jawaban:
The boy is using the air conditioner and leaving the refrigerator open to cool down the house because the weather is hot.

2. Is he doing right or wrong? Why?
Jawaban:
He is doing something wrong because he is wasting energy. Keeping the refrigerator open and running the air conditioner at the same time just to cool the house is not efficient and selfish. If everyone does the same thing, it could lead to power outages.

3. Retell the comic strip using your own words.
Jawaban:
The comic starts with a message from the local power company urging people to save energy to avoid power outages. A boy is worried because the weather is very hot, so he turns on the air conditioner and leaves the refrigerator door open to make the house cooler. His mother sees this and tells him that what he’s doing is wrong and selfish. She explains that wasting energy like that can cause power shortages. The boy understands and agrees with her.

Activity 3

Now it is your turn to do role play with your partners. Create your own short dialog about the best way to conserve energy from the given clues. Perform your dialog in front of the class.

Situation 1

Student A meets student B in front of a shopping center.
They plan to go to a bookstore on the second floor. Student
A wants to use the elevator, while student B prefers to to
use the stairs instead

Jawaban:

Situation 1: Elevator vs Stairs

Student A: Hey! Let’s take the elevator to go to the bookstore upstairs.
Student B: Hmm, how about we use the stairs instead? It’s only the second floor.
Student A: But I’m a bit tired.
Student B: I understand, but using the stairs helps us save electricity and it's good for our health too!
Student A: Oh, you’re right. Let’s take the stairs then.
Student B: Great! Let’s go.

Situation 2

Student A uses a pencil when doing his/ her assignment, while student B uses a mechanical pencil to save more trees in order to conserve energy. 

Jawaban:

Situation 2: Pencil vs Mechanical Pencil

Student A: I always use a wooden pencil to do my assignments.
Student B: I use a mechanical pencil instead.
Student A: Why? I think a regular pencil is fine.
Student B: Because mechanical pencils last longer and we don’t need to cut trees to make new ones. It helps conserve energy and nature.
Student A: Wow, I didn’t think of that. Maybe I’ll try using one too.
Student B: Good idea! Small actions make a big difference.

Situation 3

Student A usually uses his/ her motorbike to school. While student B usually uses his/ her bicycle to school to reduce pollution in order to conserve energy.

Jawaban:

Situation 3: Motorbike vs Bicycle

Student A: I come to school by motorbike every day.
Student B: I usually ride my bicycle.
Student A: Isn’t that tiring?
Student B: Not really. It’s fun, healthy, and it helps reduce air pollution. Plus, we save fuel and conserve energy.
Student A: That sounds great. Maybe I’ll try biking next week.
Student B: Awesome! Let’s ride together.
