Map of the Soul: 7 akan menjadi kelanjutan dari album BTS sebelumnya, Map of the Soul: Persona yang rilis pada 12 April 2019.
Map of the Soul: Persona sendiri sukses memborong penghargaan akhir tahun di Korea Selatan.
Dalam ajang penghargaan Melon Music Awards (MMA) dan Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) 2019, Map of the Soul: Persona meraih Daesang Album of the Year.
Sementara di Golden Disc Awards 2020, Map of the Soul: Persona meraih Daesang dan Bonsang.
